Senior Red Hat Linux
Administrator

Position Details

LOCATION: Annapolis, MD | DAY SHIFT: Two (2) days remote/Three (3) days on site

Senior Red Hat Linux Administrator will manage and optimize the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments. The Administrator will be responsible for ensuring system stability, security, and performance while supporting a range of enterprise applications. This role requires advanced expertise in Linux administration, automation, troubleshooting, and security best practices.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers across development, testing, and production environments.

  • Performing system upgrades, patch management, and security hardening to ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime and optimize efficiency.

  • Implementing automation scripts using Ansible, Bash, or Python to streamline system administration tasks.

  • Configuring and maintaining Red Hat Satellite, Identity Management (IdM), and other Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) ecosystem tools.

  • Collaborating with security teams to ensure systems are protected against vulnerabilities and comply with security policies

  • Maintaining and optimizing storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.

  • Supporting application teams by providing guidance on best practices for Linux-based deployments.

  • Maintaining documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Participating in on-call support and incident resolution activities as required.

  • Senior Red Hat Linux Administrator Consultant

  • Setup Network File Server (NFS) and mount points.

  • Configuring Chron jobs for both systems and applications.



REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience as a Red Hat system administrator.

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience administering Unix (AIX) IBM pSeries systems.

  • Fifteen (15) or more years of experience in the Information Technology (IT) field.

  • Working in a complex networked system environment with strong networking.

  • Administering Unix (AIX) IBM pSeries systems.

  • Administering systems including, but not limited to, the applications below:

    • Oracle WebLogic Servers

    • Oracle Database Servers

    • Progress 4GL/Database Servers/OpenEdge

    • Apache Web Servers v vSphere hosted RHEL Servers.

    • Rubrik backup systems.

    • Oracle Database backups.

  • PeopleSoft ix Mobius x Elastic Search xi Oracle OBI xii CVS (Concurrent Version System)

  • Red Hat performance tuning.

  • Load balancing, partitioning, back-up/recovery, and disaster recovery.

  • Working in an environment that requires 24/7 system availability.

  • Application development.

  • Red Hat Support.

  • Electronic Imaging Support.

  • Ability to:

    • Work in a team environment.

    • Communicate effectively with internal and external personnel.

    • Demonstrate leadership skills.

    • Interface with users and helpdesk for day-to-day support.

    • Provide Backup/recovery and networking methodologies.

    • Troubleshoot at the Operating System (OS), database, and application levels.

    • Knowledge of: Red Hat administration including configuration and tuning.


Education:


Bachelor’s degree, or postgraduate degree, in engineering, computer science, or related field

RedHat Certified Systems Administrator.


Schedule:

Two (2) days remote at a suitable off-site location.

Three (3) days on-site


Salary:


The likely salary range is up to $150K. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
